“I guess I’m never gonna be a donor you love” – Days 3 to 5 at the Fundraising Everywhere Festival
Buckle up, dear readers.
It's time for a whistle stop tour through my notes from days 3, 4 and 5 of last week's excellent Fundraising Everywhere Festival, with the considerable help of Mandy Johnson's brilliant sketchnotes.
So, this was Wednesday:
Sessions below: Whitney Brown gave a great presentation on what fundraisers can learn from political campaigns; Liz Chornenki led an excellent session on ableism in the sector; there was a superb interview with lawyer and activist Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu; Simone Joyaux, Tom Ahern and Derek Humphries gave some valuable life lessons, after which David Burgess's cameo musical appearance as Loosely Capaldi completely stole the show (some choice lyrics below); then after inspirational sessions from young activists Aditya Mukharji, Even Meneses and Kaluki Paul, Jodie Marsden spoke on changing causes; followed by an excellent session from No White Saviors.
First up at #FundraisingEverywhere day 3 - "Fundraising Like Political Parties" with digital strategist & fundraiser Whitney Brown: Why should we care about political campaigns? * they have lots of money to test things * they communicate A LOT * they're good at fundraising * they're bold
Similarities but also differences (see image)
Political campaigns are very clear about what they want, their mandate, & their pathway for success
Making the case: What's the problem? What's the solution? Why this organisation? Why right now?
Always have an ask! Th
